Frequently asked questions
Are these official tickets?
Yes. We purchase genuine official tickets from PT Taman Wisata Candi's booking system on your behalf. The ticket you receive is identical to one purchased directly — it carries the same QR code, validity, and is scanned at the same gate.
Why book through you instead of directly?
The official site is in Indonesian, prices in IDR, and the booking window and system can be confusing for international visitors. We handle the entire process — including ticket purchasing, availability monitoring, and confirmation — and deliver everything with pricing in your local currency. The price you see at checkout is the total — no surprise fees at the gate.
Where do I meet for the Sunrise experience?
All visitors meet at the Manohara Borobudur Cultural Center (Gate 7) — the central arrivals point for every Borobudur ticket. Temple access begins at 04:30; most visitors arrive by 04:00 to prepare. Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/BsWm39MBoc8sdSiEA
What happens if it's cloudy at sunrise?
The experience runs regardless of weather. On overcast mornings the atmosphere on the upper terraces — the silence, the mist, the scale of the structure — remains genuinely extraordinary. Refunds are not available for weather conditions.
Is the Sunrise + Sunset Pack one day or two?
One single day. You attend sunrise at 04:30 and sunset in the late afternoon on the same date. The full day in between is yours to explore the grounds, museums, and surrounding village. Pricing saves 10% vs booking sunrise and sunset separately.
What is the Temple Structure ticket?
Access to climb all nine terraces of Borobudur with a licensed Pamong Carita guide. Visits are divided into 8 daily 90-minute sessions from 08:30 to 15:30, capacity-managed by the Visitor Flow Management System. You choose your session at booking.
Do I need a Temple Structure ticket in addition to Sunrise, Sunset, or the Pack?
No. The Sunrise, Sunset, and Sunrise + Sunset Pack experiences all include the full climb of every terrace up to the 9th level — the same physical access as the daytime Temple Structure ticket, just in golden-hour conditions. Only add a Temple Structure ticket if you specifically want to climb the monument during the daytime in addition to your golden-hour session, or if Sunrise and Sunset are sold out and you want a midday alternative.
Is the Temple Structure open every day?
Yes. As of July 2025, the Temple Structure is open every day of the week including Mondays. Operational hours are 08:00 to 16:00 WIB.
Can I photograph inside the temple?
Yes — personal photography is welcome at Borobudur, both on the temple grounds and on the upper terraces. Drones are not permitted. Tripods and large telephoto lenses require prior authorisation.
Does my name need to match my passport?
Each ticket carries its own QR code, issued under your booking name; the same name across multiple tickets is fine. Foreign visitors should carry a passport as general travel best-practice. Bring photo ID on the day.
What is your cancellation policy?
All sales are final. The moment you confirm a booking, we purchase your official tickets directly from PT Taman Wisata Candi. Those tickets are issued in your name for a specific date and the operator does not take them back — so we cannot offer refunds or date changes. A refund is issued only if the operator cancels.
Can I change my visit date after booking?
Official tickets are non-transferable to a different date. If your plans change, email bookings@borobudurtickets.net immediately — we'll do what we can to help, though a refund or date change cannot be guaranteed.
Do children need a ticket?
Children under 3 enter free. Children aged 3–10 receive a 50% discount on Temple Structure tickets — contact us to arrange child pricing. Sunrise and Sunset experiences are full price for all ages.
How long should I allow for a visit?
Sunrise: ~3 hours including breakfast. Temple Structure climb: 90-minute session plus 2–3 hours for grounds and museums. Sunset: ~3.5 hours including dinner. Allow a full day if combining Sunrise + Sunset (the Pack).
Can I visit both Borobudur and Prambanan in one day?
Yes, many international visitors do this independently. The two UNESCO sites are about 40 km apart (roughly 90 minutes by car), and most travellers in Yogyakarta hire a private driver for the day to cover both. We handle Borobudur tickets only. Prambanan has its own concierge service at prambanantickets.com if you'd like to book that separately.
What should I wear?
Modest dress — shoulders and knees covered. Light, breathable clothing as it gets very hot by mid-morning. Comfortable walking shoes for the grounds. Toe socks recommended for the Upanat sandals. Sunhat and sunscreen for daytime visits. A warm layer for sunrise — 4:00 AM at altitude can be cool.
What is Borobudur?
Borobudur is the largest Buddhist temple in the world, standing on the Kedu Plain of Central Java, Indonesia, roughly 40 kilometres north-west of Yogyakarta in Magelang Regency. Built in the late 8th and early 9th centuries under the Mahayana-Buddhist Sailendra dynasty, it is a single stepped-pyramid stupa of dark andesite stone rising over nine stacked platforms — six square and three circular — crowned by a central dome. UNESCO inscribed it as a World Heritage Site in 1991, ranking it alongside Angkor Wat and Bagan among Southeast Asia's greatest monuments. Highlights include 504 Buddha statues set in niches and stupas; some 2,670 carved relief panels narrating Buddhist scripture across the lower galleries; 72 perforated bell-shaped stupas, each enclosing a seated Buddha, ringing the upper terraces; and a vast 123-metre-square base read clockwise as a pilgrimage from earthly desire to enlightenment.
How do I get to Borobudur?
Borobudur stands about 40 kilometres north-west of central Yogyakarta on the Kedu Plain in Magelang Regency, Central Java. The simplest option from the city is a private car or Grab ride-hail, which takes roughly one hour door-to-door; many international visitors hire a private driver for the day to avoid hunting for a return ride at this rural site. Budget travellers can take a Trans Jogja bus to Jombor terminal, connect to a Magelang-route coach, then a short angkot or becak hop to the gate — about two hours each way. Two airports serve the temple: Adisutjipto (JOG), on Yogyakarta's eastern edge, lies around 30 kilometres away, roughly 75 minutes by car; Yogyakarta International (YIA, Kulon Progo), the main long-haul hub, sits about 50 kilometres away, near 90 minutes via the Trans-Java toll road. Magelang town is only 15 minutes from the temple. Car parking moved to a new area north-west of the complex in 2025, so allow extra walking time.
How do I book Borobudur temple tickets for a specific time slot?
Every Borobudur visit is tied to a fixed session, so you choose your time when you book: sunrise access from 04:30, a late-afternoon sunset slot, or one of eight 90-minute daytime Temple Structure sessions between 08:30 and 15:30. We secure your chosen slot through the official PT Taman Wisata Candi system on your behalf and email the dated, time-specific ticket within hours. Because access is capacity-capped, popular sunrise and peak-week sessions are best booked several days ahead.
